Spiderwick Chronicles, a Forgettable Magical Experience
Spiderwick Chronicles is a Nintendo DS game based on the children’s fantasy series that’s adapted into a movie. The game’s target audiences are the kids that read and watched the movie. This fact seem to be forgotten be the game’s developers. Spiderwick Chronicles for the DS is one frustrating moment after another.
I don’t want to rant about the gameplay but being a kid’s game, it sure didn’t feel like one. Even though it’s turn-based, Spiderwick Chronicles requires having quick reflexes during battles. The battle can easily turn into a nightmare. You need precision timing in order to beat the goblins. You’ll definitely see the “Game Over” screen frequently with this game. To make things worse, checkpoints are too sparsely spaced out. So if you die you’ll be restarting the game from the last checkpoint, which might be 10 to 20 minutes ago. I’m sure kids will be bored by this, trust me, I did.
The Spiderwick books are well illustrated then how come this game looks plain? The backgrounds lack the variety, giving you the feeling of déjà vu. Maybe the artists were hurried to have a launch date close to the movie’s release. Getting lost in this game is easy. The map is not much of a help at all.
Spiderwick Chronicles for the Nintendo DS is a children’s game not made for children. It’s not made for adolescents as well. It is too difficult for the younger kids and too boring for the older ones. Buy the DVD of the movie instead.

how do we catch Mallory’s unique sprite? its either in chapter 4 or 5. and exactly where do i get all 8 thicket and lifter sprits??? how do we get into the junkyard? its all in the same chapter: 4 or 5

You have to get the skimmer ones first. Go back to the water just after going under the house, the water in the goblin camp, and the water in the swamp to find more skimmers. Then find a lifter where it takes more than 2 to cross water. After that, go back to the swamp and move the rock. You’ll find a thicket and lifters there.
If you already have 7 lifters, get the eighth lifter in the grass maze where the Wyrm is. Enter the maze, then go go straight ahead 3x, then back, then down (maybe down again). There will be a a lifter. Down a berry or a flower (i forgot which one is it) and another lifter will show up. The last thicket is in the junkyard. When you get pass the third checkpoint, the go to the left to find the thicket.

i’ve got two syrups for it but everytime i put one down, i takes it super fast and i never have time to catch it…..

for the unique sprite, i tried over ten times and i never was able to catch it, but do i need to put down the syrup thing and as fast as possible, to click on it? cuz i’ve tried it but the sprite is way too fast…

I found this post about the location of skimmers
1. Just outside the dwarf city (the first one you can get)
2. In the first room with water in the tunnels (north of the cellar entrance)
3. Above the log bridge in the forest (you need to walk up the river to get it)
4. Sod maze (down, right, up, down, right, up)
5. Mulgarath’s Castle, in one of the jars
6. Behind the thickets to the right of the junkyard gate
7. In the swamp, if you keep heading left from the junkyard entrance until you can’t go left any more, there is one in a small area to the north
8. In the swamp, at the other exit to the dwarf city (the one blocked by thickets)

Hi Melissa, the first bloomer sprite is near Arthur Spiderwick.
The bloomer sprite is near arthur spiderwick. go past him and into th next field. there will be a bloomer sprite flitting around in there. Also, mallory’s unique sprite, the common orchid sprite, is in the tunnels under lucinda. when you enter the tunnels, go up, and in the passage, go right and lift the boulder. enter the next room and keep going right in that passageway. you will need 5 lifter sprites to lift the boulder there. go behind the boulder, there is a room with a sprite flying around, singing a bizarre sounding song. give it syrup, go get a second, bring it to the sprite. finally, go get a third, feed it to the sprite and you will automatically be able to wash it.
