Soul Calibur Legends and the state of Wii ports

The best weapon based fighting game series ever is now an action/adventure game prepped with motion controls for the Nintendo Wii. While not a “true” sequel to the franchise, Namco seems to be taking the same approach as Capcom by releasing a spin-off, instead of a true sequel as that company has done with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.
The characters in the game look about as detailed as they were in Soul Calibur 2. Namco included a large number of the previous Soul Calibur ‘s cast to play as. While not actually saying who the characters will be, they have so far confirmed Siegfried, Taki, Mitsurugi and Ivy as playable characters.
Nintendo has developed a system, with a control system so unique, developers still aren’t sure how use it. And with these side stories instead of the numbered sequels, they can test the waters and find out which control system would work best, without risking ruining the existing franchise.
The downside to all of this is that Wii gamers will miss out on Soul Calibur 4, that is until Namco feels confident enough to develop it with motion sensing controls to truly take advantage of what the system has to offer. This also means that we’re going to get a lot of original games. Time will tell how this gamble pans out.
