The Force Came with a Leash

A first-person light saber game for the Wii had all the potential to start with. When the news of it got leaked out, every Star Wars fan, including me, had their hopes high for the actual game. Well just like the animated movie Clone Wars, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was a big disappointment.

The possibility of emulating the light saber through the Wii remote and nunchuk made me want to have The Force Unleashed. Unlike conventional controllers, you get to swing the Wii remote like a light saber. It doesn’t matter where you swing it, as long as you swing it. At first it was fun but after an hour or so, the repetitive action gets to you.

The only thing good about this game is its story. In the Force Unleashed, users get to play as Galen Marek, Darth Vader’s secret apprentice. The plot is that Vader ordered you to seek out the remaining Jedi. The storyline is full of twists but is a little bit short. You can finish the campaign in six hours or so.

Star Wars Force Unleashed WiiPlayers could use a special move called Force Grip to grab an object and throw it at an opponent. This is a nice touch but not that impressive. The controls would sometimes be unresponsive and don’t look fluid enough.

If your arms and wrist are not tired enough after finishing the campaign mode, you could challenge someone in a duel. Controls are much like in the campaign mode, including the Force Grips and special moves. You can pick characters unlocked from playing the single player game.

If you want to simulate light saber action then Star Wars: Force Unleashed is the game for you. Though don’t expect it to be entertaining. It’s still a nice game to kill time. Fans of Star Wars would enjoy playing the campaign mode and get to know what happened between episode 3 and 4.
