Record Companies Want More from Rock Band and Guitar Hero

Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman Jr. stated that the publishers of music games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero are not paying enough royalties for the songs they use. They want much more revenue from these titles.
Bronfman stated:
“The amount being paid to the music industry, even though their games are entirely dependent on the content we own and control, is far too small.”
Once again, the corporation wants a bigger share of the pie when in fact being featured in games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero gives the artists a bigger exposure and can make new fans out of the gamers. Bands such as Aerosmith, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses are popular now with the younger generation because they’re featured in games.
Experts say that even non-music games such as Madden have been used to promote music from bands. I’ve been playing the Tony Hawk franchise and made me buy the CDs of the artists featured in its sound track.
I just wish corporations such as WMG see that the gaming industry is not their enemy and they should work together in other to boost the already dipping sales of music CDs. Why punish the industry that promotes their product?
