Nintendo Wii and DS Prices to Remain Stable

Bad news for those waiting for a Wii and DS price cut. It’s unlikely to happen this year. Nintendo’s Wii console and the DS handheld is still number one in their respective categories. With the demand still high and the supply is low, the price is expected to be high.
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said, “Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don’t think we are going to need them.”
Well the big honcho has spoken. No speculations there. This came out after Nintendo’s announcement that it will increase Wii and DS production this year to quench the demand of their products.
Sony, the maker of PlayStation 3, has already slashed its retail price to compete with the Nintendo Wii while the Wii’s price has remained constant since its launch. The PS3’s price is still double than the price of the cheapest Wii.
As a value conscious consumer, the Wii is still the gaming console that’s truly worth its price. It got games for everyone. Plus, it’s the only gaming console I know that can make you physically fit. But I do hope Nintendo would lower its retail price so that I could buy my nephew one.
As for the DS, statistics has shown that its demand is decreasing. While it’s still the portable handheld of choice by most gamers, the PSP is slowly creeping up on it.
With the Wii and DS popularity still high, don’t expect their prices to go down anytime soon.
