Konami Joins the Band Wagon with Rock Revolution

Rock RevolutionKonami revolutionized the music gaming genre during the late 90’s by giving us Drummania, Guitarfreaks and even Dance Dance Revolution. So it has every right to launch its own Rock Band/Guitar Hero-like title. Right?

Konami says its time for a revolution but I don’t see anything revolutionary about its Rock Revolution. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are much like Rock Band and Guitar Hero except that the drum peripheral has six buttons against Rock Band’s four.

With Rock Revolution’s release, it will bring another bunch of peripherals in the market. Why don’t hey just make every peripheral compatible?

The Wii version is said to let the players play air guitar and air drums with the use of the Wii remote and nunchuk. The Wii version has not yet been confirmed if it will use any other peripherals.

Rock out like an idiot, I mean rockstar, anywhere with the Nintendo DS version. It uses the stylus for rhythm matching sessions. The DS version will be the only one that will support vocals by using the DS’ built in microphone. And just like the Wii version, no other peripherals are confirmed for the DS version.

The Wii and DS versions will not have any online multiplayer, but will support local battles and coop play. The Wii edition will include a Jam Mode.

The released playlist looks solid with Metallica, Foo Fighters, Blink 182, Ramones, Korn and a lot more. What I don’t like about it is that the songs are all covers.

It’s still too early as to see how Rock Revolution will impact the music gaming genre. Would you be buying Rock Revolution even if you already have Guitar Hero or Rock Band?
