Why I Was Beaten at Super Mario Bros Brawl By a Kid

kid gamerI was playing Super Mario Bros Brawl with my nephew who’s only 12 years old and he was beating me badly. The score was like 10-1. I beat him once but technically it didn’t count as he was out getting a glass of water when I started the game.

I know this is not just happening to me. Lots of gamers my age (late 20’s to early 30’s) are getting their ass whooped by kids. Are the kids getting better and smarter or are we just getting older?

Let’s look at the facts first.

Younger people in general go lots of time for themselves. What else do they do after doing all the school works and household chores? Play games of course. As for us adults, we need are pressured by deadlines, bills and other adult worries. If we do find some gaming time, it tends to be too short.

The age factor. We all know that with age, the reflexes tend to be slightly slower than before. Younger people have the advantage over us in games that require quick reflex actions.

Kids and teens tend to grasp gameplay a lot easier than adults. I remember the time I was beating everyone in Pac Man when I was a kid. They say I was a whiz kid back then back good gaming skills didn’t translate well in to the academics.

If given the same amount of time playing the same game, adults will have the edge with strategy games but when it comes to games that will require aim and reflexes, younger people will be beating you miserable.

Well as for Super Mario Bros. Brawl, it’s basically a button bashing game therefore kids who pushes the buttons faster will always win. Or it must be one of my slow days.

So what do you think the reasons why kids are better than adults, gaming-wise?

The older you get, the slower you’ll be and at the same time, if you’re around your late 20’s, to be able to beat the kids, you must be constantly playing in order to be ‘fit’ and ‘daily trained’.
