Activision has released new game details and a screenshot from X-Men Origins: Wolverine outcasts. This is their way to hype up the game and the movie that it is based on. The multi-console game is still being developed for the PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, DS, Wii, and the PC.
Ingame, players will control Wolverine and the storyline will be similar to the movie. The game begins at the Weapon X facility in Canada where Wolverine is given his adamantium claws. He would escape from the facility and would be hunted down across the globe.
Activision has this to say about the game:
Set in a variety of vivid real-world locales, the title challenges players to hone their animal instinct as they uncover hidden dangers, hunt and destroy enemies, and take on seemingly insurmountable situations while discovering the truth about Wolverine’s tragic past. With razor-sharp adamantium claws unsheathed, the future X-Man enacts lightning-quick combat, evasive maneuvers, in-depth combo attacks, and an array of brutal finishing moves.

The Wii is still number one when it comes to console sales number. Figure from the month of November show that Nintendo’s Wii and DS have increased the number of units sold even when the whole world is experiencing a recession.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 showed significant number of sales as well. What’s disappointing is Sony’s PS3. It came in last and on a declining slope. It has managed to sell less than 90,000 units last month. Sony gambled on hardcore games such as Resistance 2 but I guess casual games still rule the gaming charts. Not even PS3’s Blue-ray adoption helped sell the console.
Everyone’s feeling the pinch of the recession and I don’t think the PS3’s $399 price tag is attractive these days. Xbox got a price cut down to $199 and I think that Sony should follow that move made by Microsoft. Nintendo is still saying no to any price cut. Why would they if they still sell units even without price cuts.
With the global financial crisis that analysts are saying would affect everyone in 2009, would you still shell out some money for a gaming console?
Double hit by Square Enix, going out to the city, mother of all cooking games, and anti-mods in this week’s Nintendo News roundup.
Dragon Quest X joins Wii’s party
Square Enix has confirmed that the well received RPG series will be heading to the Wii next year with Dragon Quest X. No official word yet on the gameplay.
Final Fantasy Brings Wii/DS Cross Play
Another one from Square Enix is that they’ll be releasing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time next spring. This is a cross platform game that lets up to four players play together no matter if they’re on the Wii or the DS. I like the idea and I would like to see how they would implement this.
Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City - Nintendo Wii
Some say that this is by far the best title of the series. One thing I could say about his is that Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City had made a lot of gamers go out to the real city less and spend more time at home.
Wii Review - ‘Cooking Mama World Kitchen’
Just when Iron Chef American and Hell’s Kitchen is gaining some momentum, here comes the queen of cooking games, Cooking Mama. And she’s back to conquer the world with Cooking Mama World Kitchen.
New Wii Drives May Render Modchips Obsolete
This is bad news for modders and those who homebrew their Wii. Changes have been made to the Wii drive that would prevent it from booting up when it contains a modchip.
Who would have thought ten years ago that people would appreciate food games? One type of casual games, food preparation games have already been a staple for most Wii and DS consoles. Cooking Mama is responsible for this trend for the Nintendo consoles. The developers thought that if some gamers want to fish, play soccer, brawl with others, then there’s a fraction of gamers out there that wants to cook. And they were right.
Last summer brought us the straight from TV title, Hell’s Kitchen. Every fan of the show must have bought a copy for their Wii and DS that it enjoyed success in terms of sales numbers. Another cooking show that’s going to have its own game is Iron Chef. Iron Chef America: Supreme Cuisine will be released for the Wii. More or less it will be going after Hell’s Kitchen’s gamers.
Food games brought in a lot of new “gamers” into the gaming scene. It goes to show that today’s gamers are very much diverse and there’s no telling what they want next. Food games might be hot oday but who knows how long they would last.
This marks the start of the Fungi Era when Mushroom Men start their Wii and DS invasion today. Rise of the Fungi for the DS and The Spore Wars for the Wii are two distinct games yet their storylines are connected with each other.
The two games were first seen in this year’s E3 and since then I’ve been waiting for its official release. Like stated in a previous article (Mushroom Men Invade E3), the games are about fungus humanoids and their universe.
Rise of the Fungi for the DS is a side scroller and tells about the early history of the Mushroom Men universe. The Spore Wars for the Wii would be a 3D adventure game where you get to play as Pax and try to end the war between two mushroom factions.
I’ll try to get a copy of the game and write a full review as soon as I can. For now check out Mushroom Men’s official web site here.
Professor Layton and the Final Time Journey (DS) has well received by Jap gamers that it topped the charts last week. It has already surpassed the first week combined numbers of the first two games of the trilogy.
The game has lorded over the sales with Winning Eleven 2009 for the PS3 coming in at a far second. Animal Crossing (Wii), which was the former number one came in third while the former number two, Chrono Trigger (DS) is in fourth place. Newcomer Yugioh Duel Monsters GX Tag Force 3 (PSP) came in fifth place.
As you can see there’s a mix of every console in the top five, although DS games occupy two positions and Layton has too much of a lead among the rest of the field. This goes to show that Nintendo’s DS is still a formidable console. While Animal Crossing might have lost its steam, it is still among the leaders. Expect the sales of videogames to soar up as Christmas draws near.
Flickr user Ranadok posted these photos of the project of University of Fraser’s CIS Student Association. According to him, the project used around 17,000 pins that took 2 months to complete. This project is not a pushover.

Fuzz over N, rat race, techies, monsters, and sales in this week Nintendo News roundup.

Animal Crossing: Wild World is living up to its title of being wild when one of the characters ingame drops the N word and it’s not Nintendo. I’ll be expecting a backlash soon and it would affect Nintendo’s wholesome image.

Cue in the Ray Parker Jr. song. Yes, the ghost hunters of my childhood will be coming to the Wii and DS net year. Ghostbusters the videogame release will coincide with the movie’s 20th anniversary.
I remember the first Ghostbusters game that came out for the NES. The graphics was simple and you could easily kill Marshmallowman. Atari promises that the game that’s going to the Wii and DS would have the same content although the DS version is more of a 2D bird’s eye view, while the Wii is in 3D.
The game would let you relive your childhood dream of being a Ghostbuster, hunting down ghost, riding down the road on Ecto1 and using various gadgets along the way. The target market is the fans of the movie and nothing more. I hope Slimer is in it.
