When the Ice Cleared, Blizzard Announces Diablo 3

Diablo 3 Barbarian and Witch Doctor

I know this is not Nintendo news but I have to get this out of my chest. Over the past days, Blizzard’s web site has a splash screen that had fanboys debated on what it means. It had runes on it that some provided some clues as to what is to be the mystery behind the ice. Some speculated that it’s about the upcoming World of Warcraft Expansion, Wrath of the Lich King. Others thought that it’s a Starcraft related news. But from the beginning, I wished that it be something about my favorite Blizzard game, Diablo.

Then on June 28 Blizzard dropped the bomb and announced the coming of the Diablo 3. This game is long overdue. It has been a decade since Diablo 2 and since then every Diablo fan (including me) have been waiting for a follow up.

Call of Duty 5 Compatible with Wii Zapper

Wii zapperTreyarch, the developer of Call of Duty, announced that Call of Duty 5: World at War for the Nintendo Wii could be played using the Wii Zapper. Released last year, the Wii Zapper is a peripheral that combines the Wii Remote and Nunchuck to form a gun.

It is said that Call of Duty 5 is set in the Pacific during World War 2. Though I still think that the developers are just cashing in on Call of Duty 4’s success, it is still nice to know that the title is coming out on the Wii.

Wii Zappers can enhance the gaming experience of war games such as Call of Duty. This will truly be a nice move on the part of Treyarch, and the game’s return to the Wii will be a welcome one. In my opinion, this is how a war game should be played, with a gun in your hands.

Square Enix Presents Soul Eater: Princess Monotone for the Wii

Square Enix is set to have a Japan release of a game based on the Soul Eater manga series on September 25. Coincidentally, the manga has recently been adapted into an anime series in Japan.

According to Square Enix’ press release, Soul Eater: Monotone Princess is a action-adventure game set in a shinigami technical school of weapon meisters. The game involves collecting souls of ninety-nine evil humans and one witch.

Judging from the early screenshots, the game will have the look and feel of the manga and anime series. Coming from Square Enix, I’m expecting that the game play will be good. Hopefully the game will be released in the US as well.

          Skate It or Not

skate it for wiiEA is coming up with a skateboarding game for the Nintendo Wii and DS. Skate It is said to be a spin off of the Skate games that were released for the PS 3 and Xbox 360. The developers felt that a direct port of the game to the Nintendo consoles is not possible because of Nintendo’s unique control systems.

For the Wii console, the game will use the combination of the Wii remote and the Wii Balance Board so that players can create their own skating style. Though there are reports that the board can’t be used in pulling tricks. I think the developers should think of a way to utilize the board in doing some tricks to maximize it and make the game more instinctive.

              Super Mario Kart Wedding Cake

Mario Kart Wedding Cake 6A friend of mine is getting married 2 months from now. He and his bride to be are now busy planning their dream wedding. I tried helping them as best as I can so I surf the net for wedding ideas. Then I stumble upon this Super Mario Kart Wedding Cake.

M.A.L. wrote about how their wedding cake was a big hit on their guests. The cake is 100% edible, including the decors on it. The author tells us that it is a black chocolate cake filled with bittersweet chocolate ganache, chocolate butter cream and chocolate mousse. I wished I could have tasted the cake. I’m sure it would be sweet.

But enough about the cake, after all this is still a gaming blog and not a culinary one. The cake’s décor is inspired by Mario Kart. It got elements from the game as well as some from the Super Mario Bros series.

The cake was made by Beth from Let The Eat Cake in Costa Mesa, California.

FireNes, a way to play NES games in your Firefox

firenes.pngToday’s my birthday and I’m feeling kind of nostalgic. I miss the old NES games I use to play when I was a kid, Contra, Super Mario Series, and Gradius to name a few.

Then I stumble upon FireNes. This is an add-on for the Firefox browser that allows you to play 2,000+ NES games. You can download the FireNes installer from its site. Once installed, you can access FireNes from Firefox by going to Tools>FireNes.

It will open a sidebar with the games listed alphabetically. Choose a game by double clicking and a popup window will open. Controls are simple. All you need to press are the arrow keys for direction, Enter for start, Ctrl for select, Z for B and X for A.

Every game made for the NES is available. You most likely will find the game you wasted your time on in the past. I give the FireNes add-on two 1-up mushrooms.1up1up

FireNes requires Java and Firefox to run.

                  The WiiTop

The Nintendo Wii has gone portable. Though not officially but this Wii mod looks good and it works. This mod is made by Ben Heckendorn. It is just one of his many mods. Check out his site for more of his works.

The Wii laptop mod features a 16:9 widescreen LCD, 7-inch diagonal, stereo sound, Gamecube controller port, built-in short range Sensor Bar, ports for using original Sensor Bar and A/V output jacks (for use on external display), and a built-in power supply and compartment for power cord.

Though not really portable because it has no built-in batteries, it is still a wonderful mod. This would be great for those who live in cramped spaces but I still think that the bigger the monitor, the better your Wii experience. Well, that’s just me.

                    Clerksy, Kevin Smith’s Wii Console

Clerksy 4I’ve always been a big fan of Kevin Smith ever since I saw Clerks. And when I saw this Wii casing mod made for especially for Silent Bob, I can’t help but share it with all of you. Ramon Stokes of Morpheon Mods was commissioned to do a Wii mod for Kevin Smith. The mod is Wii is nicknamed Clerksy, in honor of Kevin Smith’s very first film.

Clerksy was commissioned as a Christmas gift for Kevin Smith. He is known to be an avid gamer and this was his very first ever Wii console.

The Wii was painted with flat gray scale colors while the Clerks characters used are black and white. The four characters, Silent Bob, Jay, Dante and Randal, are backlit with stage lights that are focused upwards to highlight the 3D Clerks logo.

Two Wii remotes come with the mod and the nunchucks are engraved, one with his name and the other is with his alter ego. The fonts are done to look like old typewriter fonts.
