Nintendo Wii and DS Prices to Remain Stable

lego wiiBad news for those waiting for a Wii and DS price cut. It’s unlikely to happen this year. Nintendo’s Wii console and the DS handheld is still number one in their respective categories. With the demand still high and the supply is low, the price is expected to be high.

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said, “Our earnings projection for the year is not based on hardware price cuts, and I don’t think we are going to need them.”

Well the big honcho has spoken. No speculations there. This came out after Nintendo’s announcement that it will increase Wii and DS production this year to quench the demand of their products.

Sony, the maker of PlayStation 3, has already slashed its retail price to compete with the Nintendo Wii while the Wii’s price has remained constant since its launch. The PS3’s price is still double than the price of the cheapest Wii.

      Bike Games to Play

A friend asked me to recommend bike games to play on the Nintendo Wii. I could only think of one game and that is Dave Mirra BMX Challenge.

There might be some obscure bike games released which stayed under the radar but as far as I’m concerned Dave Mirra BMX Challenge is the only bike game for the Wii. And this game is not even worth wasting your time on. I got my copy of it from the bargain bin.

WWW: Jetix Games Makes Babysitting Easier

Summer is for kids. I’m babysitting my nephew and niece for my cousin again. While I enjoy their company, kids can be irritating sometimes, especially if you got a deadline coming up. Then there’s only one thing that can be done, give them some sort of distraction.

So I turned on the TV and gave them my Nintendo DS. Then everything became calm once again. So it’s time for me to write an article… but about what?

Then my nephew, the one playing the DS, came to me and asked if I got any other DS game. I said it’s all there in the bag. He then asked me if I got any Jetix games. What the hell are Jetix games?

Top 3 Scary Games to Play

I know that Halloween is still months away but I do enjoy a good scare from time to time. Here are my top three scary games to play on your Wii and DS.

          Resident evil 4

          #1 - Resident Evil 4 (Wii)

Set in a Spanish village, you’re task is to retrieve the president’s kidnapped daughter. The catch: the village is crawling with mean-looking zombies. For me, Resident Evil 4 is the best survival horror game ever released for the Wii.

Rock Band: Wii Wii Rock You!

            rock band

Rock Band is scheduled to debut in the Wii this June. Rock star wannabes would have to fork out $169.99 for the game package. The package contains the game disc, a wireless guitar, drum set and a microphone.

There will be 63 songs in the final set list with five songs exclusive for Wii version only. The Wii-exclusive songs are:

            • Dirty Little Secret - The All-American Rejects
            • Don’t Look Back in Anger – Oasis
            • Roam - The B-52’s
            • Rockaway Beach - The Ramones
            • Roxanne - The Police

The downside is that Rock Band for Wii will not have any downloadable content. Harmonix’s Rob Kay, the lead designer of Rock Band (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3,Nintendo Wii), has come out and said that they want Nintendo to release a hard drive so they can provide downloadable content for the Wii version of the game.

              Wheatus’ Something Good Music Video

I know this is not a music blog but I got to share this to everyone. Everybody’s into the Wii these days. Wheatus of Teenage Dirtbag fame released their third video from their latest album TooSoonMonsoon.

During the entirety of the video, Wheatus is seen Boxing, some zapper game and of course Guitar Hero. It’s nice to see rock stars and their friends having good clean fun playing with the Nintendo Wii. Loved the video, the song is nice as well.

Now I present to you Wheatus’ Something Good video. Enjoy!

Why I Was Beaten at Super Mario Bros Brawl By a Kid

kid gamerI was playing Super Mario Bros Brawl with my nephew who’s only 12 years old and he was beating me badly. The score was like 10-1. I beat him once but technically it didn’t count as he was out getting a glass of water when I started the game.

I know this is not just happening to me. Lots of gamers my age (late 20’s to early 30’s) are getting their ass whooped by kids. Are the kids getting better and smarter or are we just getting older?

Let’s look at the facts first.

Younger people in general go lots of time for themselves. What else do they do after doing all the school works and household chores? Play games of course. As for us adults, we need are pressured by deadlines, bills and other adult worries. If we do find some gaming time, it tends to be too short.

Xbox 360 remote goes the Wii way

Microsoft is at it again. Instead of developing something new, it’s out to copy something from the industry leader, Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo’s Wii is predicted to outsell Microsoft’s Xbox 360. Much of the Wii’s success comes from it innovative Wiimote. Microsoft has something in its drawing board that is similar with the Wiimote and they’re pushing for its production this year.

The Xbox 360 remote looks like a Wiimote plus a couple of feature such as microphone, speaker, four LEDs, A/B/X/Y buttons, an analogue stick and underside trigger. Somehow I get the feeling that Microsoft wants to ride with the Wii’s success and wants Wii games to be directly ported to the 360.

Here’s the sketch of Microsoft’s Remote by the supposed source of the news who leaked it to MTV news.

                  xbox 360 remote

I hope that they configure the Xbox 360 remote so that it could be used in Halo. That would be a totally new experience even for veteran Halo players.

As suggested by the leak, Microsoft is targeting to launch the 360 remote this year but this could only materialize if the internal squabbles among the developers would cease. There seems to be a discussion on which direction the development would go.

I hope the issues would be settled soon. With this development, even though I’m a loyal Nintendo gamer, I might consider trying out the copycat.

Sonic Unleashed Announced for the Wii

sonic unleashedThe story was leaked last month. Then Sega denied its existence. Last week, Sega came out with press release confirming it. Finally, it can be told for sure. Sega’s blue hedgehog, Sonic will finally be unleashed in the Nintendo Wii.

No more cameos, this is the real thing. Sega promises that this installation of the Sonic franchise will be different than the previous ones. Sonic Unleashed will try to reinvent the game play we all know. It will be a 2D side-scroller that transitions into a 3D world in some stages. I’m waiting to see how they make the transition from 2D to 3D seamless. I hope that the game play doesn’t suffer from this.

                    From Sega’s press release:

Players will have an opportunity to engage in ways never before done with the Sonic franchise, so in addition to running at high speeds, which will be highlighted in four new speed mechanics, combat fighting now becomes possible. New combat, movement, functional abilities and platforming will be introduced to offer increased depth and variety.

sonic unleashed pic 2Hmmm… we can control how Sonic fights? Sounds like the developers still have a hangover from Super Smash Bros Brawl. Can’t wait to try this feature out for myself.

Plus, a day-and-night system will also be introduced into the game, and this may well tie into Sonic’s werewolf form. This feature is still unclear.

Sonic Unleashed will be out just in time for the holidays this year.
