Wii failure rate less than 1%

With Microsoft’s XBOX360 making headlines everywhere with it’s outstanding 33% failure rate, let’s look back at how many Nintendo consoles have died on me for the past decade.

The Nintendo Family computer, the Japanese equivalent of the Nintendo Entertainment system, stopped working around 3 years after I first got it. After extended rounds of playing Megaman and it’s sequels, along with the Streetfighter knockoffs, it simply died of wear and tear.

      The Super one fared better

Soul Calibur Legends and the state of Wii ports

The best weapon based fighting game series ever is now an action/adventure game prepped with motion controls for the Nintendo Wii. While not a “true” sequel to the franchise, Namco seems to be taking the same approach as Capcom by releasing a spin-off, instead of a true sequel as that company has done with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.

          Halo and Bungie split

          Why should we care?

Normally a gaming headline that wouldn’t catch the attention of any Nintendo gamer, Bungie, famed developer of the Halo trilogy, has now split from Microsoft and is now once again an independent studio. So what does this mean? Take a look for yourself… HALO DS.

          halo_ds.jpg

Of course, this is all just speculation, after all Microsoft probably owns the license for the Halo franchise, and such a game would never be released for a competing system. But just think of the possibilities, wireless multiplayer? Touch screen aiming? Halo and Metroid on one system? And how about Samus Aran vs the Masterchief in one game?! I’m getting ahead of myself. Samus would just kick the Masterchief’s ass anyway.

Halo for the Wii with Motion controls wouldn’t be so bad either.

Developers focus on the Wii and leave the XBOX, PS3 out in the cold

Yes, Hell has officially frozen over. Nintendo is now on top of the home console business, Sonic Stars in Super Smash Bros Brawl with Mario, Microsoft lost 6 billion, and Bill Gates is no longer the richest man in the world.

An old school Sega gamer’s wish

Sega SaturnSega Systems to Live again in the Wii’s Virtual Console?

There’s no question that the Wii would have little difficulty emulating the Saturn and running games from its excellent library of titles. The Sega Saturn was once the original PlayStation’s only rival. Nintendo’s N64 arrived years after the other systems, with no real hope of catching Sony’s early lead.

                Wii are the King

The Nintendo Wii holds on to No. 1 by getting 42.5% of the market with 12.12 millions consoles sold, besting Microsoft XBOX360 by over half a million units, or 40.4%. Sony’s PlayStation 3 still lags way behind with a dismal 17.1% market share. However, the coming holiday season may prove decisive, as changes can surely take place in the next few months.

We’ll see if Nintendo can defend its slot from Microsoft’s recent blockbuster release of action-packed HALO 3. But XBOX faces the challenge of a loyal Nintendo fan-base in Japan. If it can break that market, Bill Gates will have every reason to dance the cha-cha. As for Sony’s consecutive price cuts, the effects are yet to be seen.

                DS Lite is portables heavyweight

Meanwhile, in the portables division, the Sony PSP is taking a heavy beating from Nintendo DS/DS Lite. The DS gobbled up 67.9% of portables sales, which translates into a whopping 51 million units. PlayStation Portable’s 24 million units in sales is pretty impressive as well, but it seems that with a market this big, Sony can do a lot better.
