Game Cube: Walkthrough in History

When it was announced that the Resident Evil series were going to be exclusive, I just knew I had to get a Game Cube. Well, I would have gotten one for Zelda anyway, and it didn’t cost that much, so I figured what the heck. Besides Rouge Squadron 3 looked really good, seriously, that game had upwards of 20 million polygons on screen with real time bump mapping, lighting and reflections. Of course, the company who developed that game has just released Lair for the PS3, and while it looks amazing in it’s “true hi-def” (Sony marketing speak) 1080p resolution, reviewers say it plays like crap. Still, I reserve judgment till I get my hands on it sometime.

    Manhunt: Login and get ready

manhunt2wiiboxart.jpg“Rockstar Games’ controversial Manhunt 2 game has been rejected for a second time by the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), despite revisions made after a ban in June. Rockstar had launched an appeal to the BBFC Video Appeals Committee against that decision, which was suspended while the revised version was considered for classification.” — IT Week

Oh my god! We have to start a protest NOW! Let’s prevent the release of that filthy Manhunt 2 like how it’s been banned in Europe! It will teach children how to properly handle chainsaws, handguns, clubs, and knives! Nevermind that there’s a rating system on the game, and that it was never really intended to be played by children. Illiterate parents might buy them for their equally intellectually deficient offspring! Imagine little children learning how to properly swing a bat to bash a person’s head in with the Wii-mote!

Let’s start an online petition! I have to go now, I have to get my little sister a copy of that “Hostel” movie, I heard it’s pretty good.

      Monolith-Soft to make Wii RPGs?

Once upon a time the SNES was the console of choice for RPG gamers. It had Final Fantasy, Dragon quest, Lufia, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound and Zelda.

So the big question is, where are the Wii Rpgs? I’ve quickly run through Skies of Aracdia (which I also have for the Dreamcast), Baten Kaitos, Baldur’s gate, and both Zelda’s, all Gamecube Rpg’s. It would be a nice change of pace to play a game that doesn’t require much movement with a relaxing pace. What? Nintendo’s just bought Monolith Soft? Didn’t they make those Xenosaga games for the PS2? Xenosaga for the Wii? Or a post-apocalyptic Mario game?

        Resident Evil 2: The Movie

I’m feeling nostalgic. I just saw Resident Evil 2: The Movie on a whim, and it started to bring back memories of my old Cube. While we’re all waiting for Resident Evil 5, let’s look back at the game that launched a genre, or rather the remake of a game that launched a genre. Resident Evil 1 for the Game cube.

Just a few months after the launch of the Game cube, Nintendo still struggled to rid itself of its “kiddy image”, and what better game to pull in the teenage crowd than the premier survival horror series of the previous generation, Resident Evil. Resident Evil 2: The Movie itself can pass for a decent “date movie”, if you like scream fests in the cinema.

Nintendo Wii to spark a desktop PC revolution?

“As noted by Reuters, the games giant has passed Canon and sits behind only the Toyota Motor Company to become the second most valuable traded company. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group has a bigger market value than Nintendo, but shares are currently suspended due to a imminent share split. Shares in Nintendo were up to 59,200 JPY on Tuesday, or 3.1 per cent, bringing its market value to 8.39 trillion (GBP 36.4 million).”

              Where are my freebies, Nintendo?

wiijacket.jpg“Nintendo is now including the Wii Remote Jacket for the Wii Remotes in all new hardware being shipped. For Wii owners who purchased their systems prior to this addition, we are offering to send free Wii Remote Jackets for their existing Wii Remotes. If you would like to request a Wii Remote Jacket, please start by completing the information form below. For US and Canada only.

“For US and Canada only”?! Well, what about me? I’ve a Wii, don’t I get a jacket? Just because I’m not from North America doesn’t mean I don’t flail my arms around as much. So my TV’s in constant mortal danger, as well as any hapless bystander who happens to be passing by while I’m swinging away at Wii boxing. I hope the wii-mote strap holds.

Nintendo, I’m really disappointed. You’re from Japan for crying out loud. How could you forget Asia?

Giant Tesla coil playing the Super Mario theme song

Look what I found! Electronic music? More like electrical music, and it’s ultra-cool.

Here’s a demonstration of a giant Tesla coil (an artificial source of “lightning”), singing and dancing to the beat of Mario, Tetris, and other games.

A fanboy’s dream: Nintendo Action Figures

                  super_mario_action_figures.jpg

Admit it, you’re drooling. I did too when a friend of mine showed me these pics. Donkey Kong looks cool with the red tie, and Mario will always be a pop icon. I wonder where’s Luigi?

If only these were available when we were growing up, I’m sure it would be every schoolboy AND schoolgirl’s fantasy. It would be way up there with the Trolls, Transformers, and GI Joe. I reckon it’s not too late. These would look nice in my room’s work desk or at the office. It’s a guaranteed head turner. ;)

Nintendo stops Famicom support! and pigs still can’t fly!

                    famicom.jpg

The Family Computer, Nintendo’s 8-bit video game console released in most of Asia, including Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore, will no longer be supported. Effective October 31st, Nintendo will be retiring the system that revived video gaming back in the 1980’s.

In a business where hardware can be obsolete in just a few months, here we have a company supporting a platform for almost a quarter of a century. Apparently, with the Wii selling like marijuana, (or any highly addictive equivalent), the house of Mario has decided to focus on their on-line virtual console service where classic games for legacy systems will be playable by downloading games for a fee.

Personally, I have NES, SNES, Genesis, Lynx, Commodore, Atari, Gameboy, and Gameboy Advance emulators installed in my first Xbox, and my Famicom’s probably withering away in an attic somewhere, so I couldn’t care less.
